Game piracy increases by 20% over last 5 years

A recent report by BBC shows that illegal game downloading has increased by 20% over the past five years, based on report by research firm Envisional. The most worrying stat is that top five games of 2010 were downloaded illegally around a millions times.

"Two hundred, 250 people sat in a studio for two years building the latest Modern Warfare 3. This costs real money" Says Andy Payne, Chairman, Association for UK Interactive Entertainment.
One major reason for the rampant piracy, atleast in India (according to me) is the very high pricing for console based games. While PC game pricing has come down a lot in recent years, buying a game for console is literally like burning a hole in the pocket. Wish that the game developers fix this problem by setting attractive and irresistable features and at the same time making gamers understand that the effort put in by game developers is priceless.
