GLONASS satellite navigation system, a Russian radio-based satellite navigation system will be implemented in upcoming Sony smartphones Xperia S and Xperia Ion. Also, the following smartphones already have this technology built-in but was deactivated:
- Xperia Arc
- Xperia Arc S
- Xperia Ray
- Xperia Neo
- Xperia Pro
- Xperia Play
- Xperia Active
- Live with Walkman
GLONASS, Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema from Russia consists of 24 modern active satellites. When used along with standard 31-satellite based GPS, GLONASS improves accuracy and better positioning. Tests done in San Francisco showed 50% better accuracy when GLONASS is used in conjunction with GPS as shown in the below image:
